Welcome to a new Mindful Designer’s Almanac series that explores my sourcing, design, and development decisions for my clothing brand, Mairin. I put a lot of thought into each piece I release and think this is the perfect place to explain how I design, meet the people who make them, and source the materials for them.
I am new to the newsletter and can’t say enough good things about this! Interesting, illuminating, transparent; we should all know more about where our clothes from, to say the least. ❤️❤️❤️
I love your encouragement to buy something you will love and wear a 1000 times. That would solve a lot of our waste problems. How about smaller closets, filled with loved and frequently used things?
I loved reading about your journey and how you sourced the yarn and worked with local knitters to create the sweater. It’s so inspiring to see how much thought and care went into the process, and I really appreciate the story behind the product. ☺️
I had one of those j crew roll top sweaters in the 90s - a men's small, Ioved that sweater, wore it always - working in the garden in the early spring and with a long swishy skirt and boots to go out. My mother in law repaired it when the new rescue dog took a bite out, It's still in my closet, bearing some moth damage and the kind of not fully clean kind of smell and shine that no washing fully gets rid of but I can't lay it on the compost pile yet.
I love this both sweaters and philosophy but Mairin - I cannot fit in this sweater with a bust of 43 even if I wanted to buy one! Consider adding a larger size please!
I will soon! This order was so small I couldn’t hit the minimums for all the sizes I would like to include. But I’m hoping I can do a bigger order next!

Such a lovely read. I appreciate the peek into your process and now really really want the sweater haha.
This is so so good. Your transparency is so refreshing, and your sweater looks lovely!
Appreciate this explanation! I would love to find places to repair sweaters… These are so beautiful.
You’ve just described my dream job and made it even more dreamy. Love the sweater, your ethos and the transparency.
Love this story mairin!
